Join our team! Director of Parishioner Engagement & Communications
The Basilica of Saint Peter is seeking to fill the position of Director of Parishioner Engagement and Communications. This person is responsible for connecting parishioners to opportunities in the parish where they can encounter Christ and grow in faith. This role:
Plans and executes on parish-wide and external facing communications, inviting people to participate in the life of the church
Uses a variety of tools including, but not limited to: the parish website, the weekly bulletin, Facebook, MailChimp, Canva, signage, bulletin boards, mail, and Mass announcements
Applies a consistent approach across all media to presenting the Basilica “brand”
Works with bilingual staff to present information in Spanish
Works with parishioner volunteers to curate photography and other media of liturgies and special events
Supports ministry leaders with recruitment and promotion. Understands ministries well in order to effectively communicate.
Connects parishioners with ministries and parish resources that meet their needs
Works with the Rector to develop and deliver pastoral communications
Supervises welcome center and Parish Administrative Assistant
Oversees caller experience for incoming phone calls and answering service
Serves as administrator of parishioner database, ensuring accuracy of data, developing reports for parish leadership, and using data to inform outreach efforts
Nurtures parishioners’ financial support for the parish, oversees and executes on donor acknowledgement
Serves as administrator of the parish online giving platform
Coordinates the parish livestream ministry
Receives, responds to, and triages requests for information or assistance through the general parish email and the parish website.
Keeps office hours of 8-4:30 PM, Monday through Friday, so as to maximize interaction with parishioners and visitors who are engaging in the life of the church.
Is expected to participate periodically in after-hours programming and events in order to build relationships and represent those events well in communications.
Serves as back-up during office hours for front desk operations
Supports efforts during office hours that require additional staff in order to create a hospitable atmosphere and help things run smoothly (example: Holy Days of Obligation, funerals)
Reports to the Rector
Applicants should have at least 5 years’ experience in client-facing marketing and communications, as well as strong written communication skills, a great work ethic, a high level of professionalism, a positive attitude, excellent time management and multitasking abilities, and the ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion in sensitive matters. Experience in data management preferred. The most successful candidate will be a practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church, with a love for and commitment to the advancement of the Catholic Faith. This candidate, if he/she isn’t already, should become a parishioner of The Basilica of Saint Peter and have an understanding of, and commitment to, the parish and her mission.
