A NEW GENERATION OF FOUNDERS
The Campaign for The Basilica of Saint Peter's Third Century
A Rich History of Founders
In 1821, our forbears - those immigrant families at the bottom rungs of society, cutting their own path in a land often hostile to the Catholic faith - build a fitting place to worship Almighty God, boldly staking a claim for Christ in the heart of South Carolina's capital city, dedicating their parish to the first apostle - Saint Peter. Through the dedication of the thousands who have passed through our hallowed doors, 200 years later Saint Peter's continues to thrive.
A New Generation of Founders
In 2020, the parish emerged from a pandemic shutdown and launched a capital campaign to address the most pressing needs for its third century of ministry. Parishioners embraced the vision with joy and hope, pledging financial support for facilities expansion to extend the outreach capacity of both parish and school. While waiting out post-pandemic inflation, parish leadership pressed forward in partnership with Lambert Architecture on the design of a campaign priority: a new building on Assembly Street. Parishioners and friends continued to faithfully fulfill their financial commitments to the project.
"I can think of no better way to show God how much we love him than by giving back part of what He has blessed us with for the furtherance of His Kingdom and His glory."
- Dr. William & Dianne Neglia
The Time is Now
With over $6.3 million raised, and designs approved, construction has begun. We broke ground on January 10, 2024, in a joyful ceremony! Keep up with the changing landscape on Assembly Street here.
"Saint Peter's has helped to strengthen our family's spiritual foundation over twenty years, and our support for the capital campaign will contribute to its growth for future generations."
- Momoh & Hannah Foh
"St. Peter's has been the foundation of our relationship and our spiritual growth individually and as a family unit. St. Peter's has done so much for us from elementary school education to preparing us for marriage, to welcoming Matt into the Catholic Church in 2019, then our daughter into the Church through the waters of baptism. The relationships we've made and grown through the Church will carry us through our lifetime. We are so excited for the future of St. Peter's and what's to come next!"
- Becky & Matt Morrison
